Prison Custody Officer - Residential
Job Outline:
To perform prisoner residential duties and support the Reducing Re-offending agenda in line with contractual requirements and relevant standards.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain restrictions on prisoner’s liberty whilst promoting and protecting their rights in compliance with legislation and company policy and procedures, including security instructions.
- Support the Reducing Reoffending agenda through the application of IEP, OASys, Case Management Model, Basic Custody Screening, Sentence and Custody Planning, Offender Supervising, Review Boards and Resettlement processes.
- Maintain the highest standards of care in order to minimise the risk to prisoners of suicide, self-harm and violence, including ACCT case management and application of the anti-bullying programme.
- Ensure that prisoners receive their privileges appropriate to their location and local status so that the duty of care is met including supervision of First Night, Induction and Drugs Misuse units
- Supervision of prisoners on the residential unit including meal service, domestic activities and association.
- Promote an environment that supports the welfare and safety of staff and prisoners so that prisoner behaviour and the good order of the prison is controlled and maintained.
- Assist in the control of incidents and emergencies to reduce the impact of the incident and bring it to a swift resolution and when appropriate control and restrain prisoners to prevent escape, injury or damage.
- Search individuals, cells, premises and surrounding areas and confiscate prohibited items and / or contraband in order to maintain safety and security in line with standards.
- Complete and maintain prisoner records, documentation, reports and all associated prisoner information to enable the sharing of this information and to provide a clear audit trail.
Prison Custody Officer - Operations
Job Outline:
To perform prisoner residential duties and support the Reducing Re-offending agenda in line with contractual requirements and relevant standards.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain restrictions on prisoner’s liberty whilst promoting and protecting their rights in compliance with legislation and company policy and procedures, including security instructions.
- Control and supervise the internal and external movements of prisoners in the establishment to ensure required relevant standards and procedures are met.
- Apply all aspects of the Reception and Admissions procedures in an accurate and timely manner to ensure those entering and leaving the establishment are authorised.
- Supervise prisoner activity outside of residential units including Industries, Learning and Skills and PE.
- Ensure own and, when appropriate, others actions reduce risks to security and maintain a safe and secure environment including patrol duties to maintain perimeter security.
- Promote an environment that supports the welfare and safety of staff and prisoners so that prisoner behaviour and the good order of the prison is controlled and maintained.
- Assist in the control of incidents and emergencies to reduce the impact of the incident and bring it to a swift resolution and when appropriate control and restrain prisoners to prevent escape, injury or damage.

- Supervise small groups of prisoners identified as requiring continuous watch
- Communicate and act to promote teamwork and ensure high standards of service delivery.
The Ideal Candidate
No specific previous experience or qualifications are required but experience in dealing with the general public would be an advantage.
Candidates will be required to demonstrate general level of fitness as part of the process & previous applicants within the last 6 months need not apply.

You must be eligible to work in the UK and must have been resident in the UK for a minimum period of 5 years. You will also need to provide full details of your employment and education history for the last 10 years as part of the security screening process for this role.
