Oakhill Secure Training Centre, Milton Keynes

Working at Oakhill Secure Training Centre (STC) is no ordinary job. But if you have what it takes, it could be a very rewarding career. Day to day, you’ll help to create a safe, secure environment for young people aged between 12 to 18 years who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention. In return, you’ll receive a secure job and a rewarding career, as well as great training, excellent benefits and the chance to change lives for the better. We are looking for resilient candidates who are able to role model positive and proactive behaviours. The ideal candidate will be a natural communicator, with excellent interpersonal skills including problem solving and conflict resolution.

This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills, address the behaviours that have led them into custody and effectively re-integrate them into mainstream society on release. This role requires the ability to set boundaries, maintain a consistently mature approach and manage the behaviour of people in our care with professional authority, dignity and respect.

Working directly with the young people, you will need to be able to motivate and support them in their secure homes and in the classroom to develop life skills, manage their own behaviour and enhance their effective resettlement on release. It is imperative that candidates consider themselves to be effective and resilient under pressure and ready to manage the ever changing dynamic of working with young people, many of whom may have a history of unpredictable behaviour. This can, at times feel challenging to manage, and whilst we pride ourselves on team work and support, it is important to acknowledge that this can be a high pressured environment.

Safeguarding children and young people is our primary focus and the welfare of the child is paramount. Therefore we have a corporate responsibility to ensure that the safeguarding and our G4S values are at the centre of all we do.

The Ideal Candidate

We also invest heavily in our people.  All our new recruits will be required to attend a comprehensive 7-week induction and training programme design to equip you with the skills and knowledge to deliver every aspect of being an effective Secure Care Officer.  Experience of working with vulnerable people would be advantageous.

As well as ongoing support and development opportunities, we offer a corporate discount scheme, company pension, life assurance, childcare vouchers, free onsite parking and the chance to do an extraordinary job – every day.

Oakhill STC embraces diversity and promotes equality of opportunity. We also operate in line with safer recruitment guidelines and our equality and diversity policy. We recruit by merit on the basis of fair and open competition.  To apply for this role, you must be eligible to work in the UK and must have been resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years.   Experience of working with young people is desirable. You will also be required to undergo DBS enhanced level security clearance and will need to provide full details of your work and educational history covering the last 10 years as part of the screening process for the role.
