An exciting opportunity has arisen to provide Clinical Leadership and effective Clinical Governance to the West Midlands Region Adult SARC Team covering West Midlands, West Mercia, Staffordshire or Warwickshire. The successful candidate will be an experience Sexual Offence Examiner who is passionate about delivering and ensuring high standards and best practice and sharing their knowledge and experience with others.

A Sexual Assault Referral Centre is a dedicated centre providing a comprehensive service to men and women who have suffered sexual assault, both for those who wish to involve the Police and those who self-refer.  Utilising a multi-disciplinary team of Doctors, Nurses, Crisis Workers, Police Officers and support staff the SARC will provide crisis support, appropriate facilities and trained staff for completion of forensic medical examination, provision and advice regarding aftercare including Sexual Health and Emergency contraception, as well as facilitating onward support and referrals to other agencies, such as Counselling, Independent Sexual Violence Advisors and Health.

 

Job Outline:

  • To provide Clinical Leadership and effective Clinical Governance of the Sexual Offence Examiners across the SARC Services in the Region
  • To deliver clinical governance activity across the SARC Services in order to maintain quality and standards and facilitate the development of the SOE Nurse’s experience.
  • To provide acute forensic examinations for victims of rape and sexual assault, aged 16 and over, in accordance with G4S Health, FFLM and GMC guidelines and code of conduct, in certain circumstances. There is no routine rota commitment.
  • To assist in the clinical management of the SARC Services in line with national SARC Best Practice and contractual obligations in the West Midlands Region – West Midlands, Staffordshire, West Mercia and Warwickshire

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • To deliver clinical governance activity across the SARC Services within the region, ensuring quality and standards of the Sexual Offence Examiners (SOE)
  • To deliver training and supervise practice of Trainee SOE’s to include shadowing, competency assessment, case reviews and final sign-off.
  • To deliver Quarterly Peer Review sessions to all SOE’s and develop their skills as professional witnesses.
  • To peer review statements written by the SOE’s within the region, within contractual timeline
  • To provide telephone support and clinical advice to SOE’s
  • To investigate Clinical Incidents and Complaints
  • To undertake Clinical Audits
  • To update and contribute to SOE Clinical Policies and Procedures
  • To contribute to the development of SARC Clinical services
  • To be involved in the recruitment of SOE’s
  • To carry out forensic examinations of complex cases of rape and sexual assault in accordance with G4S Health, FFLM and GMC guidelines
  • To treat all SARC clients with courtesy, consideration, care and respect and give appropriate care and treatment in accordance with best practice.
  • To work with and liaise with the Crisis Worker and Specially trained officer to ensure that the client feels in control and the service is tailored to their needs.
  • To complete all documentation as per local guidelines including a FFLM Proforma and an Aftercare Form, and store securely as per local guidelines.
  • To complete written Police witness statements within contractual obligations or as soon as practically possible, when requested by G4S Health.
  • To attend court when requested to as a professional witness
  • To adhere to policies and procedures produced by G4S Health and the SARC.
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times, adhering to data protection and maintaining Caldicott Guidelines at all times
  • To attend local and national Clinical Governance Meetings
  • To attend Commissioner meetings as requested
  • Participate in multi-agency partnership working, establishing links with stakeholders and clear referral pathways.
  • Participate in bi annual Employee Development Review (EDR).
  • Carry out any reasonable request from your Line Manager.

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Skills:

  • Experienced Sexual Offence Examiner
  • DFCASA/LFFLM
  • Minimum 3 years post graduate experience in a relevant speciality (Gynaecology, Genitourinary medicine Reproductive & Sexual Health, General Practice, or Accident & Emergency)
  • Experience of Clinical Governance Processes
  • Teaching/Presenting Training Experience
  • Excellent Safeguarding knowledge and understanding
  • Strong communication skills both written and oral.
  • Enhanced DBS Disclosure
  • Medical Indemnity (MPS/MDU/MDDUS) (min. £10 million)
  • Access to own transport and Driving License
