£37,555 per annum

Full Time - 40 hours per week 

Shifts - Days 07:00:-19:30, Nights 19:00 – 07:30 inclusive of weekends and bank holidays

Gatwick IRC’s, Gatwick PDA and Borders is over two sites. IRC is an Immigration Removal Centre located on the outskirts of Gatwick Airport. Brook House IRC holds up to 486 men over the age of 18, in shared rooms over 4 wings and Eden Wing. Tinsley House IRC holds up to 162 men over the age of 18, in shared rooms over two floors. Gatwick PDA and Borders is located inside Tinsley but kept separate from the male population. Gatwick PDA can hold up to two pre planned families at any one time. Border families can arrive without pre warning and can hold up to one family. Tinsley IRC was recently refurbished in 2016/17 and Gatwick PDA and Borders is immaculate with well-kept outside gardens and play facilities for detained children.

At Gatwick we provide primary care in a range of clinics, which include but are not limited to Dressings / Venepuncture/ Nurse Triage / Smoking Cessation / Chronic Disease clinics / Sleep Hygiene Techniques. We run drop in clinics every morning and also have a booking appointment system. We have doctors attend site each day and on call facilities if needed. We have a visiting psychiatrist once a week, dentist fortnightly and optician monthly. We do not have any inpatient beds, therefore patients who need emergency care will be sent out to hospital or transferred to a centre that have those facilities. The needs of the men range from Physical / Social Care to Mental Health conditions. Gatwick IRC’s also has a dedicated Forward Team (Drug Alcohol Recovery) who mainly work at Brook House and visit Tinsley once a week. We can administer medication up to 4 times a day at both sites; at Brook House only this includes Controlled Drugs (CD’s) and Opiate Substitution Treatment (OST).

We are a team with experience in a variety of specialities from General, Learning Disabilities, Mental Health & Pharmacy Technician. Our dedicated team encourage nurses to develop and improve specific specialist roles e.g. Diabetes / Health promotion / Blood Pressure

 

Job Outline:

To ensure the provision of a nursing service that meets the physical and mental health needs of patients in line with professional, contractual and company requirements.

A normal shift will have the following duties involved; Dispensing medication including CD drugs, triaging patients in drop in clinic, admissions, triaging patients in the chronic disease clinic, admissions, attending emergencies, updating patients records on system one, attending MDT meetings including self-harm, supported living plan reviews, complex cases and much more!

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and deliver care pathways and health needs assessment for patients

  • Undertake assessments of patients to identify physical and mental health needs and determine the appropriate level of intervention and any unmet needs

  • Ensure a professional service is delivered in line with contractual and company standards, including security instructions

  • Promotion of a positive health, safety and infection control culture to maintain a safe environment for all stakeholders

  • To operate within the equality and diversity framework

  • To work at all times within the bounds of confidentiality, adhering to data protection,  maintaining Caldicott Guidelines, NMC Code of Conduct, G4S policies and procedures, adhering to legislation and best practice

  • Control and coordinate effective operational management of the clinical team on a day to day basis

  • Undertake Employee Development Reviews (EDR), clinical supervision, training and development of healthcare professionals and other related staff

  • As agreed with Line Manager provide professional advice and support to allied health professionals and non-clinical staff to ensure the effective health and social care of offenders in line with legislation and current best practice

  • Operate in accordance with G4S company values, ensuring ethical and professional standards are maintained at all times

  • As agreed with you Line Manager liaise with key stakeholders, including external agencies, to ensure the delivery of an effective and appropriate healthcare service

  • In a deputising capacity attend meetings (comprising customer / key stakeholders in the healthcare service), producing and presenting appropriate agreed reports

  • Under the supervision of Line Management work with the health and safety team to assist in the maintenance of nationally recognised audits

  • Assist in carrying out investigations and disciplinary hearings as agreed with your Line Manager

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Skills:

  • NMC or HCPC registration
  • Acute skills
  • Experience of working within a team
  • Evidence of leadership skills
  • Evidence of further development of own clinical practice
  • Able to demonstrate a high level of literacy and numeracy
  • Able to provide examples of diversity in practice
  • Able to work within challenging and complex situations
  • Experience of working with potentially aggressive people
  • Evidence of ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships at all levels

Desirable Skills:

  • Senior Management experience
  • Experience of working within financial constraints
  • Experience of working within a secure environment
  • Degree level qualification or above
  • Experience of involvement in innovation or change
  • Familiarity with recruitment and selection of staff
  • Hold a Nurse Prescriber  qualification
  • Able to analyse and interpret management information
  • Evidence of delivering a ‘value for money’ service
  • Driving License.

As part of the process you are required to have CTC and DBS clearance (this could take up to three months). To complete vetting the following will be required; a valid passport, 10 year checkable history for address and employment, must be a resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years and completion of G4S and Home Office forms.
