£20,000 per annum

Full Time - 40 hours per week

At HMP Oakwood we aim to inspire, motivate and guide prisoners to become the best they can be. We offer state of the art facilities, full time employment, programmes and access to Physical Health and Wellbeing initiatives.

It is located next to the existing HMP Featherstone and HMP Brinsford near Wolverhampton. HMP Oakwood will be one of the largest prisons in England and Wales, providing places for up to 1,605 Category C male prisoners.

Job Outline

To prepare and deliver the portfolio of programmes specific to the prison to ensure contractual and audit levels are maintained.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Accredited Offending Behaviour Programmes including Thinking Skills Programmes and Resolve
  • Complete assessment interviews for prisoners on all programmes and participate in selection meetings.
  • Deliver across the portfolio of programmes at the prison, as a main and co-tutor, to ensure contractual obligations are met.
  • Conduct one to one work with prisoners to ensure optimum engagement and attendance with interventions.
  • Engage in individual and group supervision, by both providing and receiving feedback, to develop practise.
  • Write comprehensive Post Programme Reports for prisoners who complete interventions.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary Post Programme Reviews within the Prison
  • Contribute to the sentence planning and Parole process for prospective group members and those who have participated in groups.
  • To complete administrative tasks such as processing referrals, updating waiting lists and photocopying session material.
  • Deliver Staff Awareness Training throughout the prison estate when requested.
  • To motivate resistant clients and challenge anti-social behaviour and attitudes appropriately. This includes deselection of prisoners from programmes.
  • Maintain boundaries and demonstrate resilience when working with offenders.
  • Deliver and support delivery of non-accredited programmes and interventions.
  • Contribute to the security of the prison by compliance with security instructions

 

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Skills:

  • Willingness to undertake the necessary tutor training for accredited programmes
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to manage a large workload.
  • Ability to challenge antisocial behaviour and attitudes appropriately.
  • Ability to engage in supervision process and respond to feedback.
  • Able to reflect on own performance and to strive for continuous improvement.
  • Good problem solving and emotion management skills
  • The ability to maintain boundaries and demonstrate resilience when working with offenders.

Desirable Skills:

  • Previous experience of facilitating group work with challenging clients.
  • Previous experience of offending behaviour programmes
  • Knowledge across the following areas would be an advantage; psychological theory particularly of offending, -‘’what works" literature in relation to reducing risk of reoffending, theories of violent and/or sexual offending, responsivity and diversity issues when working with offenders and motivational techniques.

Programmes Facilitator requires mandatory training. You must pass all required training in order to perform this role. If a training event is failed, management discretion will be used as to whether a second attempt can be made. If a training event is failed twice, your suitability for the role will be formally reviewed and may result in contract termination. You will be unable to pass your probationary period if you do not pass your mandatory training.
