Job Outline:

Reporting to the PTS Managing Director for Specialist Transport Services, with a close connection with the Head of Finance, this critical role will lead on all commercial elements of the PTS business including involvement in bid activity, the costing of extension proposals and the negotiation of commercial changes to contracts on an ongoing basis. It will also lead business improvement and efficiency projects to ensure the commercial interests of the business are protected and maximised at all times.

This will be achieved by adhering to the G4S Way methodology. This role will require the ability to interact and lead across multiple functions within the PTS and the wider regional team; apply critical thinking, the ability to challenge the norm, be innovative, be analytical, practically develop plans and deliver at pace. 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide interaction and oversight to bid activity through all phases of any opportunities
  • Develop business cases to support the develop and improvement of the PTS business
  • Refining and negotiating the optimum commercial model for the safe, efficient and cost-effective delivery of services
  • Lead, manage business improvement initiatives for PTS  
  • Prepare commercial documents for review at monthly trading reviews & ExCom
  • Manage senior client engagement, in particular with CCGs and Senior Trust members 
  • Influence at all levels to gain buy in and commitment to change
  • Identify project risks, prepare and deliver risk mitigation plans
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships throughout the organisation
  • Lead on the mobilisation, transition and transformation of projects by supporting the operational delivery teams and reacting to client requirements and changes
  • Resource Strategic Programmes of work on behalf of G4S & in light of changing demands and priorities
  • Confidently challenge the norm including at an executive level to improve business performance
  • Generate ideas & inject innovation based on prior experience
  • Assess complex situations into practical action plans
  • Define the technical aspects required to deliver projects (Scope/ Resources/ Work breakdown structure/ Timelines/ Budget/ Key outputs)
  • Define Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) to track project delivery
  • Identify, priorities and act upon the urgent and important issues
  • Review financial and business objectives in terms of retention & growth
  • Review annual revenue objectives are met as a minimum
  • Ensure team members are held accountable for the delivery of evidence based forward thinking clinical service.
  • Ensure changes required as a result of lessons learnt are embedded so they become custom and practice across the contract as a whole.
  • Ensure relevant changes to the contract are negotiated, agreed and subject to change control as required
  • Identify and optimise opportunities for new product / business development / additional revenue and process improvements that reduce costs or increase efficiency, and ensure structure is in place to deliver
  • Ensure appropriate governance at all levels
  • Be the focal point for negotiations, internally and with the customer, covering aspects including contractual changes and finances
  • Forecast results, including commentary, budgeting & financial implications
  • Identify development plan to address current and future role requirements
  • Develop competencies of Contract Team and ensure succession plans are in place
  • Performance manage and develop direct reports
  • Work with professionalism, honesty and integrity maintaining confidentiality
  • Treat people fairly, with respect, impartiality and consistency.Comply with Organisation stands in relation to H&S, Safeguarding and business ethics
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties requested as part of the senior management team

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Skills:

  • Ability to understand, translate and implement public sector procurement Framework and contracts.
  • Understanding contract financial implications, devise and implement profit improvement or business turnaround plans
  • Stakeholder management experience
  • Ability to prepare or adapt pricing schedule to manage BAU projects.
  • Commercial experience
  • Public services exposure
  • Sound understanding of financial models and processes
  • Demonstrable record of success in relationship management of strategic accounts
  • Influencing across customer and supplier organisations – internally and externally
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Effective report letter, proposal & email writing.
  • Able to interact with differing personalities, management styles etc.

Desirable Skills:

  • Understanding of the tender submission processes and procedures
  • Understanding of the Patient Transport Services market 
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Health sector, products, capabilities & markets
  • Proficient in MS Project
  • Programme & Project Management qualified such as MSP & Prince2 or significant experience utilising and working within a Programme & Project methodology framework
