G4S Custodial & Detention Services is the leading private provider of prison services in the UK and manages five successful prison establishments in England and Wales. We are looking for a Deputy Director to join our team at HMP Rye Hill, a category “B” training prison, near Rugby. The prison acts as a national resource for sentenced male adults who have been convicted of a current or previous sex offence(s). To succeed in this role, you will be a dynamic and engaging individual, who shares our ethics and values. The successful candidate will support the Prison Director to manage allocated aspects of the prison ensuring consistent cost-effective service delivery in accordance with contractual and company requirements and relevant legislation.
Job Requirements
As a Deputy Director, it is essential that you have substantial experience within a custodial environment as you will be responsible for managing the day to day operation of the prison, ensuring full contractual compliance, as well as an in-depth working knowledge of prison operations, contract and legislative requirements.
Key accountabilities
- Provide direction to operational managers so that service delivery and resource utilisation are optimised.
- Assist in ensuring that the fabric and security systems of the building are maintained and developed
- Liaise with key stakeholders to resolve contractual issues whilst practising continuous improvement
- Validate relevant budgets to ensure effective management and financial control of the contract.
- Manage the development and effective implementation of operational policies and procedures.
- Coach and support staff to maximise their performance and ensure values, ethical standards, equality and diversity policies and procedures and contractual requirements are met.
- Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture to achieve and maintain recognition as a British Safety Council 5 Star business unit
- Monitor contract performance within the operational areas ensuring issues are addressed proactively and a cost-effective contractually compliant service is delivered.
- Implement and monitor an effective ACCT and Violence Reduction systems to minimise suicides and self-harm within the prison
- Act as Silver Commander as required ensuring the safety/security of staff and prisoners is maintained and the risk of escalation is minimised.
- Perform the role of Duty Director as and when required.
- Adjudicate prisoners in line with prison service standards to ensure hearings are conducted fairly, justly and impartially.
- Develop a diversity strategy and plan and manage their implementation within the prison ensuring they are promoted and embedded into the prison’s culture.
