*2019 Spring Campaign*

Due to operational enhancements, we are now looking to start our 2019 Spring Prisoner Custody Officer Recruitment Campaign at HMP Altcourse!

Prison Custody Officers (PCOs) are key to the effective running of our prisons and we are looking for people who can fit naturally into this role whether this is from past work experience, existing skills that you can bring to complement the prison or from the ability to learn.

We currently have opportunities for Prison Custodial Officers to join our team at HMP Altcourse, a category B prison, in Fazakerley, Liverpool which holds more than 1200 adult male offenders.

HMP Altcourse was recently commended in their HMIP report for key areas bucking the trend when compared to other local prisons. This has been supported by a positive staff culture, a good focus on decency and an excellent regime that is being delivered consistently. Overall, HMP Altcourse demonstrates that a local prison can provide fundamentally decent treatment and conditions for prisoners, despite facing many of the same challenges as the rest of the prison service.

There is no such thing as a ‘typical’ prison custody officer and we encourage applications from people of all backgrounds that can show that they have the integrity, resilience and strong communications skills needed to thrive in these roles.  No specific qualifications or experience are required.

Are you the sort of person that is reliable, treats others with fairness and respect and above all have good communication skills, empathy, integrity and resilience?

Working closely with various teams within the prison, you will have a number of key responsibilities that assist prisoner’s reform; these include first and foremost making sure the prison is safe and secure with every prisoner accounted for each day. You will also play a key role in giving offenders structure and routine, making sure they get to work in the morning, are actively engaging in education and the prison regime and are secure in their cell in the evening.

The role is challenging; no two days will be the same, but the job reaps rewards when you can see as a Prison Officer that you have made a real difference to a person’s life.

If you join us, you can be sure that you’ll find a secure, friendly and professional working environment and be given all the support, training and encouragement you need to build and develop a successful career with us. Our benefits are as you would expect from a large global organisation and include a company pension, comprehensive training, career development, generous holiday entitlement, childcare vouchers and access to High Street Shop benefits, uniform and access to our on-site gym and on-site canteen.

Training; once you have passed the selection and vetting process, you will attend a local 9-week Initial Training Course (ITC). You will gain training on Control and Restraint, First Aid, Health and Safety, a BTEC qualification in Custodial Care and have the opportunity of being part of our Apprenticeship Programme.

The Ideal Candidate

Please note that these vacancies are subject to a 10 year checkable history and the strict vetting standards set by G4S and the Secretary of State for the Home Office and are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.

You must be eligible to work in the UK and must have been resident in the UK for a minimum period of 5 years. You will also need to provide full details of your employment and education history for the last 10 years as part of the security screening process for this role.
