Salary : £23,741.52  per annum

Permanent, Full-Time (40 hours per week)

Within Custody and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP & YOI Parc accommodates 1038 convicted male adult prisoners and remand/ convicted young offenders and young people in a secure but modern environment.

 

A vacancy has arisen within Invisible Walls Family Services for a Family Interventions Facilitator.

 

The successful applicant will implement and coordinate the delivery of appropriate Children and Families based opportunities for prisoners in gaining personal skills, qualifications and other relevant support from within the specified remit.  Aim to strengthen family ties and reduce re-offending and intergenerational offending by increasing opportunities for families to support sustainable rehabilitation, developing links with local community, family support and advice services. Contribute to the development of a holistic custodial environment with opportunities, which will continually develop their skills and support rehabilitation.

 

Main Duties

Co-ordinate and deliver specific projects aimed at building better family relationships.

Undertake all duties as outlined in the Fathers Inside Line Manager specifications, including supporting Fathers Inside tutors and Fathers Inside Family Support Workers

Facilitate family based prisoner learning and personal development ensuring full compliance with prison service requirements and operating instructions. Duties as specified by the Senior Manager for Family Interventions to incorporate:

  • Adherence to the Quality Assurance Procedures at HMP & YOI Parc
  • Careers, education and training opportunities
  • Community contact with participants families
  • Personal progression and soft skills
  • Ensure diversity and opportunities for all learning styles and abilities

 

Development, supervision and delivery of family focused interventions, in conjunction with the PSF model as dictated by the Senior Manager for Family Interventions.

  • Fathers Inside / Man Up / Motivate 2 Achieve

  • Scouts / Firefighter for a day / Reading Force
  • CONNECT days / Language & Play/Family Days
  • Employability/Training skills

  

To collate statistical information from activities undertaken, on a regular basis. Receive and review completed interventions and other data including:

  • Numbers of Learners participating in programmes  |  Completion rates
  • Number of awards gained  |  Progression onto appropriate interventions
  • Any other sustained interventions and support  |  Diversity information

 

Work closely with Offender Management, Security, Education and Resettlement and all other departments with the sole purpose of ensuring relevant information is shared amongst colleagues. 

Responsible for booking family lounge visits; obtain security clearance and notify prisoners.

To represent the department as and when required internally and externally.

Comply with all Occupational Health and Safety requirements.

Follow organisational systems and procedures outlined in company manuals.

To work collaboratively with voluntary and statutory partners, families and communities in order to increase the capacity and effectiveness of the service.

To prepare reports and briefings on the development of the Family Intervention provision.

To adhere to existing working practices, methods, procedures, undertake relevant training and development activities and to respond positively to new and alternative systems.

To carry out any other reasonable duties and responsibilities within the overall function, commensurate with the grading and level of responsibility of the post.

The Ideal Candidate

Job Holder Specification

Formal Education:  Educated to GCSE standard or Level 2 equivalent in a related field e.g. social work, sociology, child care, family work, youth and community work, criminology, psychology.

 

Desirable:  Social Work or Community Based Qualification, e.g. DipSw or equivalent  |  Delivery and supervision of offending behaviour interventions  |  Knowledge and understanding of the issues affecting disadvantaged people in accessing services  |  Working with disadvantaged learners and learners with additional needs  |  Information, Advice and Guidance Qualification  |  Moderating and Verification Awards A1 & V1  |  Technical Education: Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office (all packages)  |  Statistical Analysis and presentation of data

 

Knowledge / Experience:   Experience of working in a custodial environment with offenders  |  Delivery / supervision of offending behaviour interventions  |  Providing Information, Advice and Guidance on educational, work and community based opportunities  |  other interventions  |  Working with families and children  |  Understanding of barriers that have negative impact for achieving change  |  Understanding of the needs of disadvantageous or excluded groups in society and an awareness of the Equal Opportunities/Anti-discriminatory practice principles relevant to address these needs  |  Excellent report writing abilities  |  Presentation skills
