As a Database and System Administrator, you will provide hands-on leadership and oversight to business and leadership teams and partners. This position will identify needs, define strategy, and guide the delivery of new technologies.

As part of the technology team, provide strategic insight and expertise, and tactically execute Retail Solution’s technology infrastructure game plan.

Further responsibilities include a continual evaluation of said infrastructure, as well as implementing and respond to the results of an internal audit of technology environment.

Main Responsibilities

Specific Duties and Essential Functions

  • Provide strategic insight and expertise, and tactically execute Retail Solution’s technology infrastructure game plan
  • Evaluate current data structure and environment; create and execute a short-term plan to any identified gaps or potential issues
  • Actively engage in strategic planning for Retail Solutions infrastructure architecture design
  • Ownership and leadership of response and resolution for all major incidents
  • Evaluate Disaster Recovery (DR) plan, identify gaps, improve current environment, test and maintain a DR testing protocol
  • Create a self-audit evaluation of current technology environment
  • Provide regular internal reviews on key performance and management information reporting

The Ideal Candidate

Education, Licenses and Certifications Required

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related degree
  • Must possess Microsoft Technology training, including SQL, Azure, and other technology modules

Type and Length of Specific Experience Required

  • Must have work experience with MSSQL
  • Must possess work experience with TFS or a similar source control and workflow repository
  • Must possess a minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience demonstrating proficiency in the following:
    • Creation, configuration and administration of Windows 2012 and SQL Server 2012 servers in a virtual environment, including documentation of build checklists.
    • Management of large and growing databases (databases greater than 2TB growing at a rate of 100GB per month)
    • Implementation of Disaster Recover, and High Availability strategies to provide near-real-time replication environment
    • Configuration of Always On availability groups, and Log Shipping
    • Creation of PowerShell and TSQL scripts
    • Use of OS and database real-time monitoring tools, such as Quest Spotlight.
    • Development and execution of key production performance indicators
    • Monitor and tune SQL Server indexing strategies
    • Provide TSQL, index and data model tuning recommendations for poorly performing queries
    • Configuration of IIS including creation and renewal of SSL certificates
    • Perform routine DevOps tasks, including deployment of product releases, hotfixes, and configuration changes.
    • Perform regular reviews in accordance with internal and external audit controls.
    • Provide production support for databases and server infrastructure
    • Creation and enforcement of process and change management standards
    • Actively participate in team environments
    • Engage with 3rd party vendors / suppliers for troubleshooting support
    • Engagement with Business Relationship Managers and business representatives
    • Enabling and improving people, process, and technology to deliver an optimal IT support service to the business
    • Adding value to a high performing IT team
    • Participation in an on-call rotation involving 24x7 availability when on-call
  • Work history that demonstrates the following:
    • A highly risk averse approach to project execution and incident resolution
    • Ample foresight when designing scalability, stability, availability, maintainability, auditability, security, monitoring, performance, and integration of systems
    • Self-starter; Ability to perform required activities in a self-management environment
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Proficient analytical and problem solving skills
    • An aptitude for effective leadership of staff
    • Demonstrated ability to be flexible, adaptable, organized
    • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple demands for time, energy and resources
