SENIOR COMMERCIAL MANAGER

Home Based - London/SE

40hrs, Full Time, Permanent

£70,000 - £90,000 per annum

We have an opportunity for a Senior Commercial Manager to join our team. This is a full time role working 40 hours per week. The role is Home Based and will support the commercial management of 3 contracts in Tower Hamlets, East London and Greenwich, therefore the ideal candidate should reside within commuting distance to London or the wider South East area.

 

As Senior Commercial Manager you will be expected to drive commercial delivery within operational area of responsibility, ensuring that tight commercial management is in place across a number of operational contracts or a large strategic contract. Working alongside the Account Manager, Operational Director and on-site teams and collaboration with other functional teams. 

 

Key Responsibilities will include:

Business as usual (BAU)

  • Deliver value added activities such as developing contract-supporting documents and contributing to commercial policy and promoting commercial awareness in all colleagues at a level appropriate to their role

  • Lead on the development and management of contract specific risk registers and any dispute management with suppliers and customers.

  • Provide assurances to the business that the commercial / contractual imperatives on the contract are being adhered to and that risks are being appropriately mitigated.

  • Advise on, and review the ongoing performance of suppliers to commercial terms at account and business level in collaboration with the Regional procurement function.

  • Lead the commercial position on material contractual disputes, working closely with the legal and operational team, laying out the recommended commercial strategy, leading the execution of the commercial plan and negotiating with internal and external stakeholders within given boundaries.

  • Identify, develop and support organic growth and profit improvement initiatives.

  • Own the commercial solution with regards to project delivery, ensuring that appropriate contractual arrangements are in place and back to back both upwards to clients and down through the supply chain.

  • Reporting regularly to the Commercial Director on the progress of assigned matters and capacity and support requirements generally.

  • Preparing supporting materials for regular contract reviews and attending executive performance meetings to support the Operational Directors.

  • Become the trusted point of contact for commercial enquiries from your clients with the ability to resolve and escalate issues appropriately through relationships built with internal contacts including Directors, Finance, Procurement, Project and Technical Assurance colleagues. 

 

Variations/Project Works

  • Leading review and negotiation of client contracts, variations and change notices, including coordinating input from relevant stakeholder colleagues and the in-house legal team on more complex or substantial matters.

  • Ensure that the commercial terms are well understood and pricing strategies are in place for dealing with risks and converting entitlements.

  • Manage the production of commercial cost models and commercial responses.

  • Gain G4S stakeholder approval to the commercial positions proposed, such as Group Legal, Finance and Director approvals in accordance with the DoA matrix.

 

Commercial Close/Governance

  • Act as Commercial Lead to ensure commercial position and pricing/costs are established and risk mitigation strategy is clearly developed.

  • Co-ordinate each contract's commercial responses and ensure these are issued in accordance with contractual timeframes and all matters closed off within contract specific frameworks. 


 

Benchmarking/Market Testing

  • Ensure clear commercial strategy is in place for managing the Benchmarking and Market Testing exercises of a contract in collaboration with the operational, finance and procurement teams.

  • Lead client negotiations and obtaining internal sign-off to achieve the resolution and closure of Benchmarking exercises within contractually specified timeframes.

 

Team leadership and development

  • Provide leadership to commercial team members and ensure clarity is provided on focus areas to deliver against the contract and wider business and commercial objectives.

  • Work with individuals to understand their career aspirations and development areas, ensuring that they are provided with the coaching and support to enable them to position themselves for their next roles and deliver against the immediate needs of the business. 

The Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria:

  • Degree level or equivalent demonstrable commercial technical knowledge and experience.

  • Proven ability to successfully negotiate on high “value at stake” issues.

  • A strategic thinker with strong commercial awareness, excellent interpersonal awareness and influencing skills and a target/profit driven attitude with a focus on delivering results.

  • Managing and developing direct reports.

  • Ability to deliver in a fast pace and demanding environment.

 

Desirable Criteria:

  • Legal knowledge with PFI contract forms.

  • Clear understanding of key issues in outsourcing specific to the FM market.

  • Strong FM or construction background.

  • Education and Health Sector Experience.

  • Experience in dealing with construction defects.

  • Understanding and working knowledge of Lifecycle funds.

  • Understanding of PFI Contract Payment Mechanisms
