After opening in 2022 it is a one of a kind new generation category C new build Prison for the future and has become an integral part of the local community.

 

G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) already successfully manages 4 prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. The philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to re-integrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe.

 

We are now looking for an experienced Equalities and Inclusion Manager, to join the Safety Function at HMP Five Wells. The successful candidate will promote, manage and provide professional advice, guidance and support to all staff on Diversity and Human rights ensuring compliance with legislation and company policy.

 

Reporting to the Head of Safer Custody, you will be an integral part of the Safety Function, be a great communicator, will be outgoing and visible.

 

You will also play a pivotal part of the Enhanced Support Teams.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate the work of the Race & Equalities Action Group to ensure compliance with best practice, legislation and company policy.
  • Advise the management team on the implementation of all company policies and legislation related to equality and inclusion and human rights to ensure that informed decisions can be taken.
  • Investigate and report on incidents and complaints that arise related to equality and inclusion, ensuring that lessons learnt are acted upon, and where appropriate that operating procedures are revised accordingly.
  • Ensure that risk assessments are conducted and implemented for all areas of the prison, to ensure that all employees and prisoners are being treated equally and fairly.
  • Initiate and maintain links with external agencies on all relevant issues to promote and make better provision for equality and inclusion within the prison.
  • Instigate the development and delivery of training programmes to managers and employees to raise awareness and clarify responsibilities regarding diversity, equal opportunities and human rights practice.
  • Monitor the environment on a daily basis, ensuring that appropriate race relations, equal opportunities and human rights procedures are appropriate and consistently applied.
  • Collect, collate and distribute ethnic monitoring data to relevant stakeholders for their information.
  • Assist in managing the implementation of the equality and inclusion plan, including promoting diversity awareness and best practice, ensuring it is embedded into the prison’s culture.
  • Liaise with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the provision of services and facilities within the prison meet the diverse cultural and religious needs of all prisoners.
  • Ensure the maintenance of security within the prison environment by compliance with security instructions.
  • Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health & Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner & follow the applicable safe systems of work for the role.
