Salary: £22,212.20 per annum

Full time: 39 hours per week (various shifts)

We’re bigger, more diverse and involved in more fascinating, cutting-edge projects than many people would imagine and we now have an opportunity for Prison Custody Officers (PCO) to join our team at HMP Altcourse, a category B training prison, in Fazakerley, Liverpool, holding more than 1200 adult male offenders.

Key responsibilities in the role include:

  • Maintain restrictions on offender’s liberty whilst promoting and protecting their rights in compliance with legislation and company policy and procedures, including security instructions.
  • Control the internal and external movements of offenders in the establishment to ensure required relevant standards and procedures are met.
  • Complete and maintain offender records, documentation, reports and all associated offender information to enable the sharing of this information and to provide a clear audit trail.
  • Ensure that offenders receive their privileges appropriate to their location and local status so that the duty of care is met.
  • Ensure own and, when appropriate others actions reduce risks to security and maintain a safe and secure environment.
  • Promote an environment that supports the welfare and safety of staff and offenders so that offender behaviour and the good order of the prison is controlled and maintained.
  • Assist in the control of incidents and emergencies to reduce the impact of the incident and bring it to a swift resolution and when appropriate control and restrain offenders to prevent escape, injury or damage.
  • Search individuals, cells, premises and surrounding areas and confiscate prohibited items and / or contraband in order to maintain safety and security in line with standards.
  • Maintain the highest standards of care in order to minimise the risk to offenders of suicide, self-harm and violence.
  • Undertake activity in relevant work area to provide a full range of services for offenders in line with the contract.
  • Communicate and act to promote teamwork and ensure high standards of service delivery.

You must be eligible to work in the UK and must have been resident in the UK for a minimum period of 5 years. You will also need to provide full details of your employment and education history for the last 10 years as part of the security screening process for this role.
