Are you flexible, confident and have the skills and ability to deal with people from widely differing backgrounds? Can you communicate effectively and deal with conflict or challenging situations with assurance? Are you non-judgemental and committed to dealing with everyone with dignity and respect?

If the answer to these questions is yes – then we are looking for you to join our team of Prisoner Custody Officers.

G4S has been contracted by The Scottish Prison Service to provide all court custody and escorting services in Scotland covering eight bases across Scotland and routes add up to approximately 13,000 miles travelled per day. The seven-year contract includes the escorting of all prisoners  in mainland Scotland and islands, between prisons,  police stations and courts as well as all external  visits, including hospital visits. The contract is likely to involve the transport of around 180,000 prisoners each year. G4S has a fleet of over 140 specialised vehicles and employ around 750 employees on the contract.

G4s is the world’s leading private security organisation with over 100 years’ experience, and currently operating in over 120 countries globally. The opportunities for development and growth within such a vast company are extraordinary.

Of course you will also be entitled to the range of benefits you would expect from a world leading employer including;

  • Uniform
  • Pension Scheme
  • Life Assurance Benefit
  • Holiday Pay
  • Employee Care Scheme

Whether you are driving one of our purpose-built secure vehicles, conducting searches, escorting prisoners, managing prisoners at Court, or completing paperwork, your focus will always be on safety and security whilst treating people with respect and consideration. You will be trained to ensure that all prisoners, regardless of any allegations or convictions, are dealt with consistently, fairly and in line with regulations.  In this fast paced environment, you will need to remain calm under pressure, adapt to changing situations and have a full UK driving licence along with the ability to work at weekends.

The Ideal Candidate

If you have great people skills, a non-judgmental approach and ideally a C1 driving licence; you could train for a career that’s both challenging and rewarding.

This role requires the ability to deal with vulnerable and difficult people whilst maintaining high standards of security and service delivery. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are vital. The role requires the flexibility to work across a wide variety of sites/locations.

You will be required to work 4 on/4 off shifts – maximum 12 hour shifts, not including travel time to location.

The main duties of this particular shift will be covering hospital detain of prisoners and this may involve travel outwith locality. However, you could be tasked to carry out any duty within the Prisoner Custody Officer remit.

You must hold a full current driving licence for this particular shift and have your own vehicle.
